Bone density tests require virtually no preparation. The tests are fast, easy and painless.
During assessment and treatment of osteoporosis/osteopenia, bone density tests are often performed on bones that have an above normal likelihood of breaking. Bone density may vary between different locations in your body so with a positive indication in one part of your body additional scans may be prescribed to confirm a diagnosis. If you’ve recently had a barium exam or scan requiring injection of contrast material tell us before taking these tests. These materials may interfere with test results.
Bone density tests can confirm low density but they do not tell you why. Our skilled physicians will determine what, if any, additional exams, tests or treatments are required.
